The Perfect Bedspread

Finding the right size bedspread for king-sized beds or mattresses can be quite confusing, especially if you're looking to get an exact fit. Thanks to the non-standard size of king-sized beds and mattresses it often boils down to taking out the measuring tape and getting the exact measurements of the bedspread before you even consider buying it. This often devolves into a size over design issue as you find the perfect look for your bed or mattress but then get disappointed by the fact that they don't have your size, something that anyone who's gone clothes or shoe shopping can relate to. The answer is to get yourself an oversized bedspread.

An oversized bedspread is much larger than your average bedspread, allowing it to hang over the sides of the bed. More often than not, this looks just as good as a bedspread made to fit the bed or mattress exactly. This takes the hassle out of looking for the exact measurements as almost all oversized bedspreads will fit for practically any king-sized bed or mattress. However, there can be instances where the bedspread is just too big and it spills out over the floor. Again, you're going to have to look up a little info on what kind of king-sized bed or mattress you're using.

Typically a Standard king-sized bed or mattress is also called an Eastern King and a California king-sized mattress is also called a Western King. If you can't get any clues from this, mainly because you've lost the packaging or your mattress salesperson didn't know then the rule of thumb is that a Standard king-sized mattress is about 4" wider and a California king-sized mattress is 4" longer compared to each other. Compared to a queen-sized bed or mattress the Standard king-sized mattress is 16" wider but the same length while a California king-sized mattress is 12" wider and 4" longer.

While the design for the bedspread is equally important, its a good idea to get a comfortable bedspread as well. A nice comfortable surface is great for those days when you don't need to snuggle down underneath the covers. Another comfort feature to look out for is padding. Padded oversized king bedspreads add another layer of comfort and don't cost that much more than non-padded versions. Solid colors usually work best for this kind of bedspread, mainly because you have to take into consideration that the bedspread is going to hang down. However, dual colors or tasteful patterns are also very good with an oversized bedspread.
